All of the journals we publish offer state-of-the art systems
to handle the entire peer review process online.
We, together with our parent body, the Society for Endocrinology,
have been pioneers in this area. We initiated a consortium
of publishers, including several learned societies, which
collaborated together to develop one of the very first such
systems – Espere (electronic submission
and peer review). This
forward thinking enabled us to offer online manuscript submission
well before many larger publishers, a move that was very
popular with authors, referees and editors.
Now we use one of the foremost and most sophisticated systems,
Manuscript Central from ScholarOne. This enables authors
to submit their manuscript in the format that is easiest
for them, and automatically creates PDF and HTML versions
to suit the preferences of reviewers. Editors can allocate
reviewers and monitor their performance entirely online,
and authors can view their papers’ progress at any
time. The system automates reminders to reviewers, and allows
the allocation of ‘reserve’ reviewers who will
automatically be contacted if the initial reviewers fail
to report. The entire process can be managed by the experienced
peer review team in our Bristol office, or by your own editorial
staff, depending on your needs and those of your journal.
Upon acceptance, the article’s files flow seamlessly
into our production system, through to final publication,
minimizing delays and human error.
