International Neuroendocrine Federation
|
The International Neuroendocrine Federation (INF) has the pleasure to invite you to the next International Congress of Neuroendocrinology to be held in Bristol from 31 August to 4 September, 2002. This is an exciting moment for international neuroendocrinology. The INF, which has replaced the International Society for Neuroendocrinology, is now over one year old. The successful formation of the INF is the result of a shared wish to join together all the forces of the neuroendocrine community and build a truly international federation, representing the interests of all its members across the world. At the present time, it is composed of seven national and transnational neuroendocrine societies, and many individual members from around the world (where there are not yet established societies) whose particular interests are represented by seven regional representatives. Neuroendocrinology continues to be a field that encompasses a wide variety of subjects, ranging from genetics and molecular biology, through cell and systems physiology, neuroanatomy, immunology, to clinical medicine. Our international meetings, which were previously held under the auspices of the International Society for Neuroendocrinology, bring together established and young investigators, and make it possible to review and evaluate recent progress in all the diverse research areas in neuroendocrinology. The success of the earlier meetings in San Francisco (1986), Bordeaux (1990), Budapest (1994) and Kitakyushu (1998) attest to the need for such meetings. The Programme Committee, chaired by Susan Wray, has set up an excellent programme consisting of keynote and plenary lectures and symposia. Much time and space will also be devoted to poster presentations and the conference will reflect the state of the art research in the various branches of neuroendocrinology. The attendance of many young investigators is a prerequisite to the success of these meetings and special efforts have been made to enable them to attend, including a low student registration fee and stipends provided by the Federation itself. The Local Organising Committee, headed by Stafford Lightman, is making every effort to ensure the success of this conference. Bristol itself is a lovely European city in the midst of a beautiful part of the UK that can be reached easily by plane or train. We are confident that this 5th International Congress of Neuroendocrinology will provide the highest quality science and a memorable social programme and will be a grand success. Together with the Local Organising Committee and the INF Council, I look forward to welcoming you to Bristol in 2002. Dionysia T Theodosis |
