Pat Barter obtained a BA Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance in 1982 and joined the Bristol-based accountancy practice Solomon Hare, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1986.  She spent 18 years at Solomon Hare, gaining experience in medium to large company audits and accounts. She spent a number of years working within the pensions and investments division, providing support and advice to clients on pension regulations and accounts, whilst also managing and monitoring the division’s own regulations and budgets.  In 2000 she moved to act as Company Accountant to a subsidiary of Scottish Radio Holdings plc.

Pat joined the Society for Endocrinology and Bioscientifica in 2003, where she manages the accounting, IT and administration functions of the companies.  Whilst ensuring that the day-to-day accounting functions are maintained, she also develops and advises on new systems and controls to ensure that the integrity of data is maintained.  She also advises the Society and Bioscientifica on financial strategy. In addition, Pat and her team offer accounting services and advice to Bioscientifica clients, where required.

In 2008, Pat obtained the ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting.
